Recently, Microsoft released the latest build of Windows 10 (build 10565), as an exclusive for those who are signed up to the Insider Program. It’s anticipated that the next stable release will be taking place in November, meaning that the changes in the preview are likely to go live at this time.

Among the changes was a new field in the Start menu, which appears to be advertising for “Suggested” apps.  The Suggestions field periodically updates to recommend downloads from the Windows Store. At this stage, it’s unknown whether these recommendations will be exclusively free apps, or whether paid software might creep in. Here’s a sneak peek at what it might look like:

Suggestions are enabled automatically, but they can easily be switched-off. To do this, right-click the “Suggestions” menu item and a pop-up will appear. This will allow you to disable suggestions completely, or to just block this specific ad.

Alternatively, you can go to the Settings menu (under Start) and then click Personalization. The Start option will be at ‘Occasionally show suggestions in Start’, so use the slider to turn this off.
